How To Relieve Pregnancy Headaches

The unfortunate truth is that headaches are a natural part of pregnancy in most cases. When you are not pregnant and have a headache, you can safely take several over-the-counter drugs to help alleviate the pain.

However, when you are pregnant, it is not safe to take some over-the-counter pain-relieving medication. Here are some safe and natural ways in which you can relieve headaches during pregnancy.

Eat Smaller Meals

Sometimes headaches during pregnancy are caused by low blood sugar. You need to make sure your blood sugar level remains consistent throughout pregnancy. The best way to do this is to eat small meals throughout the day instead of having large meals in one sitting.

It can be tempting to eat a lot all at once as cravings during pregnancy can be intense. However, if you discipline yourself to eat smaller meals consistently you will greatly relieve your headaches.

Get Enough Sleep

It can be difficult to get enough sleep during pregnancy. There are several reasons for this. Your growing belly can make sleep very uncomfortable. You may also have to make several trips to the bathroom every night. All of this can leave you fatigued and it can cause you to have headaches.

If it is at all possible you should try to take naps throughout the day so that you can make up for the rest you lost throughout the night. Many women find that sleeping with a pregnancy pillow helps them to get comfortable enough to sleep better throughout the night. You should try this and see if it helps you get more rest from headaches.

Prevent Dehydration

Dehydration during pregnancy can cause headaches. It is a good idea to try to be strategic about your water intake during pregnancy. Try to always have water with you when you are leaving home. Set reminders on your phone, so that you always remember to drink water throughout the day. This is one of the easiest and safest ways to help avoid headaches while you are pregnant.

Headaches are often one of the many symptoms that you will experience during pregnancy. They can be one of the most difficult parts of pregnancy, but the good news is that these headaches can often be relieved without the use of medications that could harm your baby. Be strategic about what you eat, try to get enough sleep, and stay hydrated to prevent headaches.
